With the cost of motoring apparently rising all the time – we’re all hearing the news that petrol costs are due to rise again.

The AA has revealed that London drivers are looking at the highest petrol costs in the UK, after prices re-bounded from the summer slump. An average litre of petrol will now set you back 117.5p!!! That’s a whopping 2.5p higher than mid-September. If you drive a diesel it’s even worse news…up 3.28p on September to an average 121.3p a litre.

Seems like a good time to revisit this Guardian article from 2001 (when prices seemed high) to think on ways you can bring down that cost.
